Celje is a city of experiences! It opens up a magnificent vault of historical, cultural, tourist and culinary riches. It is a magnet that draws and attracts with ancient stories, myths and legends and overwhelms with its contemporary urban pulse. It takes you places where the impact of our ancestors and contemporaries can be felt; or to places where a vast expanse of natural beauty offers tranquillity, relaxation or adventure.
Let us walk through old city of Celje with many buildings important for our national identity, everyday life passing by since Roman time, when Celeia was a flourishing town on crossroads of important Roman trade routes. The basement level houses the largest in situ display of the remains of the Roman Celeia, spanning over 1,000 square metres.. Visiting the Prince’s mansion, the residence of the Counts and Princes of Celje, we will also get introduced to important local family, Counts of Celje.
Ptuj is our next stop, another important military Roman town with Mithraism remains present.
Today’s vistas over Drava river are dominated by The Ptuj Castle complex built in the mid-12th century.
We’ll walk through this small regional town , the oldest settlement in Slovenia, for some considered as the most beautiful medieval town in the country. Passing City Hall, Town Tower and Theatre…
Free time for snack/lunch or you can visit Ptuj Castle with many original exhibitions from 17th – 19th centuries ( Arms collection, Musical instruments with flute from Roman time, Canvases and portraits….).
Maribor – Slovenia’s second largest city will be our late afternoon stop. City is wonderfully nestled in the embrace of the green Pohorje Mountains on one side and the picturesque wine-growing hills on the other. The city is located by the Drava River and in its centre grows the oldest – over 450 years old – vine in the world, where you can taste quality wines of the region.
After a nice full day experience we will return back to Ljubljana after one hour drive.
Drop off will be at same location as pick up.
