Step back in time, back into 11 century, just for a few hours and experience medieval times. Those were the times when German king Henry II conferred the estate of Bled to Swiss Bishops of Brixen and Bled Castle was built on the top of 100m mountain cliff. Since then many years have passed, but Castle maintained its medieval character.
In the 12th Medieval Days at Bled Castle you can experience medieval time yourself:
At the upper court meet the Castle ‘s Lord and visit his castle with many chambers open to the public.
Medieval musicians, dancers and street performers will take you back in time playing life music and showing you dancing and social etiquette of medieval time.
Visit castle’s forge and choose your sword to join knight’ s tournament and sword fight classes, where you can see a chivalrous competition or mock fight.
My be Archery is your medieval thing, when it was considered as one of the most important weapons.
The castle also houses a unique treasure – a reconstructed Gutenberg’s wooden printing press on which the master printer will demonstrate old printing techniques using hand-made paper. Important insight in Slovenian language and first printed Slovenian book.
And there is much more to experience at Bled.
The tiny, tear-shaped island beckons from the shore, where you can take ‘pletna’ boat for a ride to island. Rowers still use man power as in old days, making your experience more memorable. On the island climb atop 99 stairs and ring the bell for your wishes to come true.
Upon return from the island stop at the local patisserie and take a break; taste Bled’s famous cream cake – kremšnita. Since the last 60 years, as many as 12 million cream cakes have been sold. Try it yourself.
After a nice full day experience we will return back to Ljubljana.
Drop off will be at same location as pick up.
